James is currently doing social movement research at The Social Change Lab to understand if, and how, protest can help tackle the world's most pressing problems.

James was recently part of the 7-person team designing the 2022 strategy for Extinction Rebellion UK, as well as being part of XR’s central coordinating team which was responsible for organising a 2-week campaign that drew 5,000 people to London to address the climate and ecological crises.

James was also a Director and the Strategy Lead for Animal Rebellion, taking responsibility for the oversight, direction and growth of the organisation. He led Animal Rebellion through its incubation and growth process, from a team of eight part-time volunteers to 15 full-time staff, approximately 150 part-time members operating across 20+ countries.
